About a week ago Master De La Riva came to Conquest (my school) to hang out with us and teach a seminar. He is not only a legend in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ( he has his owe position), he is an amazing person. DLR is one of those guys that is aways smiling and he lights up the room when he comes in.

The day after the seminar my instructor Vicente Jr, who is very close with DLR, set up an extra training session for me and a few of my training partners. We rolled and talked about a few different positions. I was like a kid in a candy store. I pick up a few new tricks that has already helped my game.

Before we stopped for the day, I asked Masted De La Riva to show me one of his favorite techniques. He decided to show a sweet DLR guard to back take / sweep option.

Let me know how you like it!!

I’m back!! With a NEW, FREE Turtle Guard Blue Print

How it Goes?

I have been gone for a while and I am sorry about that. Life has a way of pulling us in many different directions. Fall of 2014 and the start of 2015 were full of ups and downs for me and my family. Because of that, I was not on the mats as much as I wanted to be. I had a few injuries, I put a lot of time into the business side of Conquest Academy, and my wife and I had a new beautiful daughter (MYA).

Easy side-control escapes

Still getting smashed in side-control?

Some of you are still having trouble with the dreaded side-control. Trust me, I know how bad this position can be. When I get my guard passed and my face is getting crushed, I always think to myself, I need to fix my guard because this position SUCKS!!!

If you are new to this site and have not tried my FREE Side-Control Survival Guide please try it. It just might save your face one day.

Everyone gets their guard passed so don’t think you suck or its only you. If someone does pass and they will, you need to get out. On the video this week I Kail Bosque and I show how we like to escape side-control.

I you like the info I put up please spread the word about Best BJJ Drills.

If your sick you need a pill. If you suck you need to DRILL!!

Great Scissor Sweep with escape Drill

I had to spend countless hours, above and beyond the basic time, to try and perfect the fundamentals.

Just as Julius Erving shot thousands of basket balls, you will need to drill this basic sweep thousands of times to master it . The scissor sweep and technical escape are two very basic but also very effective techniques.

In this video we will link both techniques together to work a sweet partner drill. Professor Kail Bosque and I will show the way we like to teach both of these movements and how we put them together to drill in a very effective way.

Time is always an issue for us. By linking two or three techniques together like we did here and in the triple guard attack, we are not only drilling, but we are drilling with no wasted movements.

Drilling is the key, so just do it.

Talk to you soon, and please share this.

Professor, Lance Trippett
